30 Nov 2012

Long-distance operator TransTeleCom (TTK), which is wholly-owned by state railway firm Russian Railways, is said to be considering the opportunity to acquire an unspecified internet service provider (ISP) with around 100,000 broadband subscribers. In addition, TTK has also tested a pilot WiMAX network in Murom – a city in Vladimir Oblast – and that it plans to inaugurate commercial operations in the near-future. Going forward, TTK intends to roll out WiMAX networks in 20 other cities during 2013. RBC Daily quotes Shukhrat Ibragimov, the vice-president for strategic development at TTK, as saying that the telco’s broadband subscriber base currently stands at 850,000.
