Officials to face charges over 2001-2003 spectrum allocation

The Supreme Court has given the green light to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to charge telecom ministry officials and wireless operators for alleged illegal allocation of spectrum in 2001-2003. Telecom Tiger reports that the CBI is expected to charge Telecom Secretary Shyamal Ghosh and Deputy Director General (Value Added Services) J R Gupta as well as officials from Vodafone India and Bharti Airtel. Investigators claim that ministry officials allocated spectrum beyond the prescribed limit to certain companies during 2001-2003.
