Japan’s leading mobile operator by subscribers NTT DoCoMo has set up a wholly owned subsidiary in Singapore to support Japanese consumers, businesses and travellers with language support services; the unit is due to be operational from 1 January 2013. The cellco says the unit will act as sales agents for the city-state’s number two operator, StarHub, supporting Japanese speakers for sales of mobile phones, cable TV and broadband internet as well as provide Japanese language support with billing plans, handset use and registration. The new business will take over from DoCoMo’s Singapore representative office, established in 2005, which will cease operations after cancelling its business registration.
