Maxis Q3 net profit down 18%

29 Nov 2012

Malaysian telecoms operator Maxis Communications has reported consolidated group revenue of MYR2.216 billion (USD725 million) for the three months ended 30 September 2012, down 1% from MYR2.244 billion in the year-ago period. Sales from mobile services totalled MYR2.12 billion in the third quarter of 2012, compared to MYR2.16 billion twelve months earlier. The company said that earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) fell from MYR1.123 billion in Q3 2011 to MYR1.055 billion twelve months later on the back of higher device expenses, while net profit attributable to shareholders dropped 18% year-on-year to MYR442 million in Q3 2012, mainly due to lower EBITDA and higher financing and amortisation costs. At 30 September 2012 Maxis reported 12.169 million mobile telephony customers, including 2.559 million post-paid subscribers, as well as 631,000 wireless broadband customers.
