ETAPA rolling out DTH followed by IPTV

29 Nov 2012

Ecuadorian municipally-owned telco ETAPA, based in the city of Cuenca, will start operating DTH satellite pay-TV services in February 2013, while an IPTV system is expected to be implemented in the second stage of the USD20 million project, reports NexTVLatAm. Last year ETAPA was licensed to offer pay-TV nationwide. DTH services will initially be offered in Cuenca, while the company revealed further plans to roll out a fibre-optic broadband network over the next two years which would support IPTV in the city. Agreements with programmers are lined up for DTH trials in January.
