856 jobs to go as SFR looks to cut costs

As revealed in TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate earlier this week, the French telecoms operator SFR is to reduce its workforce by almost 9% as part of ongoing cost-cutting measures. SFR says it will shed 1,123 employees through voluntary redundancies, but it will hire in 267 new staff, leading to a net reduction of 856 workers. SFR’s owner Vivendi is considering its options for the telecoms unit, and this could include the sale of the firm, with the UK’s Vodafone Group thought to be among the potential buyers.
