Sprint Nextel’s regional affiliate Shenandoah Telecommunications (ShenTel) has confirmed that it has launched services based on Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology in around 56 markets in the mid-Atlantic, expanding Sprint’s 4G footprint by roughly 735,000 people. ShenTel chief operating officer Earle MacKenzie told Fierce Wireless that the company inaugurated its new network on 23 November in areas of Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia. The company has used Alcatel-Lucent network equipment for its deployment; Alca-Lu is one the main vendors for Sprint’s ongoing ‘Network Vision’ modernisation project.

Separately, Sprint has confirmed that it has launched LTE in eleven new markets in the north-east and mid-west, bringing the total number covered to 43.
