United Internet, which provides internet access under the brand name 1&1, has reported consolidated revenue of EUR1.767 billion (USD2.3 billion) in the nine months ended 30 September 2012, an increase of 14.9% from EUR1.537 billion in the year-ago period. The company’s internet access segment saw sales jump 15.9% year-on-year to EUR1.169 million for the first nine months of 2012, driven by a rise in the number of fee-based customer contracts from 3.91 million at 30 September 2011 to 4.54 million twelve months later, due mainly to strong demand for 1&1 mobile internet products. Of the total customer contracts, 2.71 million were DSL subscribers on ‘complete’ packages (up from 2.45 million a year earlier), 1.18 million were mobile internet users (610,000) and the remaining 650,000 were narrowband and T-DSL/R-DSL subscribers (down from 850,000). The access segment reported a 33.4% year-on-year rise in EBITDA from EUR109.1 million in 9M11 to EUR145.5 million twelve months later and a 43.6% increase in EBIT to EUR125.2 million.
