Moldcell quick off the mark with LTE testing

15 Nov 2012

The Moldovan mobile operator Moldcell has already launched its first public test area for 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) services, just days after being awarded a 4G licence. The firm is offering customers the chance to try out LTE technology at its Moldcell Cafe in the capital, Chisinau. The cellco, which is backed by TeliaSonera of Sweden, has been deploying 2.6GHz LTE equipment since last year in preparation for the award of licences. Concessions were offered to all three Moldovan mobile operators at a fixed price of EUR10 million (USD12.3 million), and so far Moldcell and Orange have both taken up the offer, with Moldtelecom still to make its move.
