Globe, Google to offer free mobile internet in Philippines

Filipino operator Globe Telecom has launched a ‘Free Zone’ service, powered by Google Inc, for its Globe Prepaid and Globe TM Subscribers, giving them internet access and select Google services on web-enabled smartphones without having to pay any data charges. The cellco joins a select band of operators in the world offering a ‘free’ mobile internet service, which will include access to Google Search, Gmail, and Google+ on mobile devices and smartphones at no cost via the web site libre.ph. Globe’s new mobile internet promotion is being made available to more than 30 million mobile subscribers nationwide until 31 March 2013.
