Orange set to enter 4G arena alongside Moldcell

14 Nov 2012

Following the recent news that Moldovan wireless operator Moldcell had been awarded a 2.6GHz 4G licence, it has now emerged that rival firm Orange Moldova has also acquired a concession. Moldova’s National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information technology (ANRCETI) is charging a fixed price of EUR10 million (USD12.3 million) for the 15-year 4G concessions which offer 20MHz of paired frequencies between 2500MHz and 2690GHz. The technology-neutral licences can be utilised for a range of technologies, including UMTS (W-CDMA), Long Term Evolution (LTE), and/or IMT-Advanced. The country’s third mobile operator, Moldtelecom, has so far made no move to join its two competitors in the 4G sector.
