South African-backed cellco MTN Uganda has announced that it is boosting maximum data speeds for its 3G+ customers to 21.9Mbps, reports IT News Africa. In order to meet growing demand for mobile data services, the cellco has installed 78 new base stations – with plans to deploy a further 300 3G+ sites – and has expanded the footprint of its fibre-optic network. By the end of the year, MTN expects to have fibre-based infrastructure totalling 2,800km in length and a total of 1,100 base stations.
