According to MyBroadband.co.za, South Africa’s second national operator (SNO) Neotel has indicated that its trials of Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology are ongoing at its Midrand campus, with the telco noting that it has achieved peak download speeds of 70Mbps. The company, which hopes to initiate a commercial LTE service before the end of the fiscal year, is currently assessing partners to collaborate with on the deployment. However, CEO Sunil Joshi warned journalists that the trial ‘is still a work in progress’. Neotel is reportedly using a portion of its 1800MHz spectrum for the trial.
