AIS reaches 3.5m 3G subscribers; blended ARPU climbs 4% y-o-y

Thailand’s largest cellco by subscribers Advanced Info Service (AIS) posted a net profit of THB8.79 billion (USD285 million) in the third quarter of 2012, up by 42.4% year-on-year, driven by surging data service revenues and 42% lower finance costs. Consolidated revenue grew by 8.7% to THB33.7 billion in the three months ended 30 September 2012, as voice/data service revenues climbed 9.3%. Non-voice revenue was THB6.679 billion, up 32% y-o-y and 5.7% q-o-q, incorporating mobile data (internet) revenue growth of 59% y-o-y and 14% q-o-q, and 3G subscriptions on AIS’s UMTS-900 network increased to 3.5 million at end-September, up from 2.9 million in the previous quarter. In July-September AIS added a net 78,000 post-paid and 438,000 pre-paid subscribers to reach respective totals of 3.546 million and 31.777 million, or a blended total of 35.323 million mobile accounts. It reported ARPU in 3Q12 of THB676 (post-paid) and THB201 (pre-paid), for a blended figure of THB248, up by nearly 4% from THB239 in 3Q11 (THB647 post-paid, THB195 pre-paid).
