Chilean telco Entel has posted revenue of CLP353.3 billion (USD734 million) for the third quarter of 2012, up 14.4% year-on-year. Mobile services accounted for 78.7% of sales, and the growth in overall turnover was largely attributable to mobile subscriber growth and increased penetration of smartphones. Higher costs, however, saw operating income inch up by only 2% to CLP61.3 billion. Entel’s wireless subscriber base stood at 9.89 million at 30 September 2012, up 15% year-on-year, while monthly ARPU during the third quarter slipped slightly from CLP9,000 in Q3 2011 to CLP8,900 in Q3 2012. The company’s fixed line units fared relatively less well, with sales from local telephony falling 1% to CLP10.2 billion, and revenue from the telco’s internet division growing by only 1% to CLP4.2 billion.
