31 Oct 2012

Maltese telco GO has launched the island’s first commercial fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network offering internet speeds up to 200Mbps, under the ‘Rapido’ banner. Markus Golder, CCO at GO said that FTTH at speeds of up to 200Mbps is currently offered at Forth Mansions in Ta’ Xbiex, Portomaso in St Julians, and in homes in H’Attard near Tal-Mirakli, with other areas to be added soon, while broadband speeds of up to 35Mbps are already offered by GO ‘almost nationwide.’ Previously, GO offered 100Mbps FTTH services on a commercial trial basis in multi-tenant buildings at Portomaso in St Julians and Forth Mansions in Ta’ Xbiex, while fibre access has long been offered for corporate customers. Rapido comes in three variants, 35Mbps, 75Mbps and 200Mbps, bundled with unlimited fixed voice calls to all GO fixed line numbers, up to 400 free monthly mobile minutes and IPTV with over 70 channels. The IPTV service comes with interactive features that include restart, catch-up, pause, rewind and record.
