PLDT’s Smart launches HD voice calls

Smart Communications, the mobile arm of Filipino giant Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT), has launched a high-definition (HD) voice call service on select smartphones. Initially available in select areas in Makati City and Bonifacio Global City in Taguig, the cellco’s HD voice service and can be enjoyed by Smart’s 3G subscribers who own smartphone a capable of adaptive multi-rate wideband transmissions, it says. According to PLDT and Smart technology director Rolando Pena, HD voice calls will provide ‘improved modulation techniques which allow the transmission and reception of crystal-clear audio using the same amount of bandwidth as in regular voice call’.
