Kabel Deutschland unveils Berlin Wi-Fi project

German cable operator Kabel Deutschland has announced the launch of a public Wi-Fi network in Berlin in cooperation with the Media Authority of Berlin-Brandenburg (mabb). The cableco has rolled out 44 public hotspots across the city, offering users 30 minutes of free access per day to internet at download speeds of up to 100Mbps. Kabel Deutschland subscribers that have registered at the firm’s customer portal are given unlimited free access to the hotspot service. Current coverage zones include Hackescher Markt, Gendarmenmarkt, Unter den Linden, Kastanienallee und Kollwitzplatz, while a further 60 hotspots will be rolled out by next summer in other locations such as Potsdam and Charlottenburg.
