VIPnet confirms 800MHz application

18 Oct 2012

Croatian mobile operator VIPnet has confirmed that it submitted an application for a licence in the digital dividend frequency range ahead of the 15 October deadline set by regulator HAKOM, which had issued a public call for the award of spectrum in the 791MHz-821MHz/832MHz-862MHz band. Rival Croatian operator T-Hrvatski Telekom (T-HT) previously announced it had responded to the 4G mobile licence tender call. Three concessions each with 2×10MHz spectrum allocations are valid until October 2024 and carry a fixed one-off fee of HRK150 million (USD26.5 million), with additional annual fees for usage of frequencies set at standard levels for existing mobile licences in Croatia. The concession sale should leave room for third operator Tele2 Croatia or a new entrant to the 4G market, although Tele2 did not confirm whether it had placed an application for the digital dividend spectrum in its group third-quarter report published this morning.
