UPC Romania mulling mobile launch

According to local press reports, cableco UPC Romania is considering entering the mobile market as a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO). The newspaper Ziarul Financiar cites the operator’s general manager Severina Pascu as saying that the company is planning to become an MVNO, but that it does not yet have a launch date in mind. At the end of June 2012 Romania was home to 27.1 million wireless subscribers, equivalent to a penetration rate of 126.5%, according to data from TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database.
