Swedish cableco Com Hem has elaborated on recently announced plans to launch a new ‘TV everywhere’ platform based on TiVo middleware. The firm’s research and development manager Jens Persson revealed in an interview with Iptv-news.com that an alpha trial of the new service range is planned around Christmas, delivering integrated features across fixed/IP/mobile platforms including HFC cable, IPTV, iOS, Android, PC and Mac, and supporting linear TV, video-on-demand (VoD) and OTT on all devices. The TiVo solution is designed to offer a full range of TV features at home and on the move, with intelligent/remote recording, series linking, search/browse, TiVo recommendations, VoD, companion device and apps (such as YouTube, gaming and Twitter). Persson detailed the large-scale network improvements required to facilitate the service, involving deployment of the back-end ‘Adrenalin’ platform from Seachange (which will be integrated with Com Hem’s existing BSS system and with ‘TiVo Mind’), a streaming platform from Edgeware, Quality Assurance from Baton, QAM from Harmonic and transcoding from Envivio, plus a Samsung set-top box incorporating a 500GB hard drive.
