PTA face Lahore court over blasphemous film

8 Oct 2012

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has been called upon by the Lahore High Court to present a report regarding measures being taken to block blasphemous material on the internet and TV. Local paper The News reports that a petition filed with the court has accused the regulator and sister watchdog the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) of criminal negligence for not preventing the distribution or viewing of an anti-Muslim video that sparked riots across the country last month. The petitions claimed that as links to the video were still available on the internet, the PTA had failed in its responsibilities.
