8 Oct 2012

The government of Kuwait has authorised the country’s mobile operators to begin offering services based on Long Term Evolution (LTE) 4G wireless technology. The trio of existing cellcos – Zain, Viva and Wataniya Telecom – are permitted to deploy LTE networks utilising their current spectrum allocations in the 1800MHz band, upon payment of a KWD250,000 (USD888,099) licence fee, local news agency KUNA reports.

Separately, the Ministry of Communications has announced that it is to re-align the frequency assignments for mobile operators in the 900MHz band. Viva and Wataniya will both have their allocations increased to 10MHz, while Zain will have its holding decreased to 14MHz.
