Dominant carrier Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT) has revealed plans to roll out fibre-optic cabling to Batangas, Cebu, and Davao in the next two months, providing customers with broadband download speeds of up to 100Mbps. According to PLDT vice president and head of broadband services Gary Dujali, the carrier’s ‘PLDT Fibr’ service is currently available in around 70 villages in Metro Manila (including Forbes Park, Dasmarinas Village, Ayala Alabang, Greenhills, and Valle Verde), with that figure set to rise to around 100 within the coming months. In the launch phase, the operator is targeting its PLDT Fibr rollout to cover ‘upmarket residential customers’ in its internet subscriber base, Dujali said. Monthly charges for the ultra-high speed product range from PHP3,000 (USD72.12) a month for a 8Mbps connection, rising to PHP20,000 for a PLDT Fibr 100Mbps line.
