The BusinessMirror newspaper writes that the Filipino telecoms watchdog the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) has called on fixed and mobile operator Globe Telecom to set a deadline for the completion of its ongoing network systems upgrade amid continuing complaints from consumers. The regulator has called Globe’s attention to a raft of subscriber complaints over dropped calls, delayed SMS, slow mobile internet browsing and difficulties in placing voice calls. NTC commissioner Gamaliel Cordoba has informed the group that it needs to redress the problems and has demand that Globe improves its service. The latest warning follows another major glitch in services which Globe attributes to ongoing work to upgrade the old network – which can no longer sustain the volumes of traffic it is handling. ‘They informed us that the problems in their network are due to their ongoing systems upgrade. We instructed them to submit a definite completion date and to constantly inform their subscribers through text and other media as to the status of their upgrade,’ Cordoba said.
