Nawras introduces FNP for corporate customers

17 Sep 2012

Oman’s second national telecoms operator Nawras has announced the launch of fixed number portability (FNP) for its business customers. The service will enable corporate customers using a Primary Rate Interface (PRI) to keep their existing number when switching to Nawras, which is majority owned by Qatar Telecom (Qtel), from another telecoms operator. ‘The launch of FNP is a major milestone achievement for the telecommunications industry in Oman and an eagerly awaited development for the corporate sector,’ commented Adnan Zubaid Khan, product manager for Fixed Voice and International Data Services at Nawras, adding: ‘FNP for corporate customers with PRI is the first step in a service that will expand over time to enable more corporate customers to join Nawras. We are thankful to the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority for their assistance with this project and we look forward to introducing the same service on a wider scale in the near future.’ The introduction of the FNP service is a step towards increasing competition between Nawras and former monopoly Oman Telecommunications (Omantel).
