Afghan internet service providers (ISPs) have temporarily blocked the YouTube website after a video portraying the prophet Mohammad sparked protests in Egypt and Libya. Afghanistan’s President, Hamid Karzi condemned the film, saying that insulting Islam was not allowed by freedom of speech. A spokesperson for the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) was quoted by Reuters as saying: ‘We have been told to shut down YouTube to the Afghan public until the video is taken down.’
