6 Sep 2012

Thailand’s second largest mobile operator by subscribers DTAC has agreed to pay a THB10 million (USD320,000) fine to the National Broadcasting and Telecoms Commission (NBTC) for a 65-minute network outage last month which affected around 7% of its users. The fine, which is additional to compensatory airtime/data voluntarily offered by the cellco to its users, the face value of which it expects to reach THB300 million by the end of this week. The outage was traced to a sub-contractor disconnecting MPLS routers at a switching centre. Telecomasia reports that the fine is the largest ever levied on a Thai operator for service failure.
