Telefonica to expand networks in the north

Spanish-backed telco Telefonica del Peru, which operates under the group’s Movistar brand, announced plans to invest PEN77 million (USD28.76 million) in the northern regions of Lambayeque and Piura. RCR Wireless reports that the funds will be used to improve infrastructure, including the expansion of mobile and fixed broadband networks. The telco’s general manager Cesar Rosas Linares said that the investment would concentrate on improving coverage and access to telecommunication services, adding that Telefonica has noted positive performance in Peru’s northern territories.
