Swedish telecoms vendor Ericsson has confirmed that it has been selected by Telekom Austria Group to deploy a multi-standard radio access network for its subsidiaries A1 Telekom Austria and VIPnet (Croatia), paving the way for the smooth introduction of Long Term Evolution (LTE) across the cellco’s respective networks. Multi-standard radio networks allow telecoms providers to operate multiple mobile communications standards on a single network, and the two companies will see their flexible 2G/3G/4G RAN solutions underpinned by Ericsson’s RBS 6000 multi-standard base stations. Hans Pichler, chief technology officer for the Telekom Austria Group, commented: ‘Our users always come first and that is why we are so committed to continue enhancing the customer experience for our subscribers. We felt confident in [selecting] Ericsson, [which is] already our supplier of 2G and 3G [infrastructure]. We will be happy to see our subscribers in Austria and Croatia reap immediate benefits from having access to the latest network technologies.’
