On demand services subject to traditional TV rules

28 Aug 2012

Internet-based on demand services in Poland are to come under supervision of the National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT), effectively meaning they must comply with the same rules as traditional TV channels, in line with other European markets, reports Broadband TV News. Legislative amendments to this effect have been agreed by the government, in compliance with the European Audiovisual Media Services Directive. Polish on demand web-based content providers will consequently be subject to controls regarding protection of minors, and must allocate at least 10% of output to European productions, while such services will no longer require formal registration, though they must submit an annual report to the KRRiT.
