DoCoMo's LTE subscriber base reaches five million

20 Aug 2012

NTT DoCoMo has announced that its Long Term Evolution (LTE) subscriber base passed five million on 19 August. The cellco’s ‘Xi’ service, which offers maximum downlink speeds of 75Mbps, is growing rapidly, having passed the four million subscriber barrier only 28 days ago. The pace of new additions has grown significantly in recent weeks following the introduction of a new Xi-compatible smartphone range. The company also revealed that it plans to release a smartphone in October that will offer maximum data speeds of up to 112.5Mbps. DoCoMo aims to increase the proportion of LTE-compatible models in its overall smartphone sales volume to 60% for the year ending March 2013.
