Minister aims to ban domestic roaming charges

Russia will introduce legislation to outlaw domestic mobile network roaming charges, according to the communications minister, Nikolay Nikoforov, who indicated in a Twitter feed that a new law will put an end to roaming fees charged when travelling between different regions of Russia, with the aim of reducing the overall cost of mobile services to the end-user. However, a report from Tass-Telecom, cited by Telecompaper, quotes the minister as adding that mobile users will still have to pay long-distance rates when calling from one region to another.
