Telecoms infrastructure firm Tower Bersama has acquired 2,500 mobile towers from the country’s number two operator PT Indosat for USD406 million, giving it a significant leg-up as it looks to ramp up efforts to better serve its clients in a competitive market. In a statement to the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) last Friday, Tower Bersama CEO Hardi Wijaya Liong said the move will hopefully boost the firm’s income, going forward. The infrastructure provider booked net income of IDR283 billion (USD30 million) in the first six months of this year, up 31% on an annualised basis. Turnover climbed 47% over the same period to IDR647 billion as Tower Bersama closed out June 2012 with 8,584 tenants at 5,416 telecoms sites, including 3,959 towers, 1,040 shelter-only sites and 417 distributed-antenna system networks – according to the Jakarta Globe newspaper. The tower firm’s list of customers includes domestic service providers Telkomsel, Telkom’s fixed-wireless unit Flexi, Hutchison CP Telecommunications, Indosat, and XL Axiata.
