TeliaSonera International Carrier deploys 100G optical network with Nokia Siemens

1 Aug 2012

TeliaSonera International Carrier has upgraded its pan-European fibre-optic network by deploying an overlay 100Gbps Dense Wave Division Multiplexing (DWDM) network in partnership with long-standing technology provider Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) to cope with future IP traffic growth. The new network replaces existing 10Gbps and 40Gbps sections – also supplied by NSN – across the European segment of TeliaSonera’s global network which also stretches across North America and Russia. Mikko Lavanti, head of optical networks customer sales at NSN, said that the new overlay network is fully integrated with Juniper routers and will initially have 40/100GE (gigabit Ethernet) capacity with the potential to be upgraded to 400G and beyond.
