Tanzania Telecommunication Company Limited (TTCL) has selected NEC Corp of Japan to provide it with ‘last mile connectivity’ communication equipment, local paper The Guardian reports, citing the communications, science and technology minister Prof Makame Mbarawa as saying. In an address to the legislative assembly on Wednesday to present his budget estimates for fiscal 2012/13, Prof Mbarawa said that the contract tie-up had been reached at a recent investment conference for Southern Africa Development Community members held in Japan. The minister informed parliament that TTCL has put measures in place to ensure that there is no repeat of the debt problems the telco experienced when servicing government agencies in the past; the carrier’s collection rate is currently 96% with the aim of hitting 100%, he said.
