More delays for spectrum auction

19 Jul 2012

India’s Empowered Group of Ministers (EGoM) have deferred making a decision on the reserve prices for 2G spectrum in the upcoming auction, reports the Business Standard. The EGoM has asked that the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) draw up a new study assessing the impact of a variety of price levels and has requested that the regulator look into the effect of implementing spectrum usage charges of between 3% and 8%. The EGoM will meet tomorrow to review the DoT’s data and make its decision, which will then need to be approved by the cabinet. With a final decision on the contentious issue still not forthcoming, it is becoming increasingly unlikely that the DoT will be able to meet its end-August deadline for completing the auction.
