Bichara Tecnologia, a leading telecoms solutions provider in Brazil, says it is readying itself to announce five technology contracts with no fewer than five mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) in 2H12, BNAmericas quotes its technology director Daniel Bichara as saying. ‘We have four or five MVNO operations in the second half to announce – projects which we expect to be operational by [the end of February] next year,’ Bichara said. ‘Our time-to-market is minimal, because different from other foreign technology providers such as Ericsson, for example, we are from and in the Brazilian market, we know how it works. That gives us a big advantage,’ he added.
The company official stopped short of divulging names, but did confirm that the new MVNO entrants have the backing of financial services companies and large retailers.
The nascent MVNO market in Brazil is currently home to just two licensed players – Porto Seguro and Sercomtel – although other firms are poised to jump on the bandwagon in the near future, including Virgin Mobile and Sisteer.
