NT dispenses with STD numbering on PSTN, CDMA landlines

The Himalayan Times writes that state owned incumbent PTO Nepal Doorsanchar Company Limited (Nepal Telecom, or NT) this Monday connected all 75 administrative districts across the country with local calling, removing the previous STD numbering provision. The move means that NT’s fixed and fixed-wireless customers can now make calls across the Kingdom at a local call rate of NPR1 (USD0.012) per minute (excluding tax). A spokesperson for NT, Guna Keshari Pradhan, says the changes will allow its customers to make cheaper calls in Nepal, improving telecoms access for less well off users.
