True to launch cable TV in Myanmar

16 Jul 2012

Thai quadruple-play operator True Corp has announced a plan to launch cable TV services in Myanmar this year with a potential investment of THB1 billion (USD31 million). CEO Suphachai Chearavanont told the Bangkok Post that True expects to finalise a joint venture plan with Myanmar’s government on the cable TV project this year, and intends to spend ‘at least’ THB1 billion on the service. True will apply for a cable TV broadcasting licence once the Myanmar government starts issuing them. Suphachai said that True will capitalise on the popularity of Thai entertainment content in Myanmar, and will produce local-language programming.
