UKE mulls MTR drop

13 Jul 2012

The president of Polish regulator the Office of Electronic Communications (UKE), Magdalena Gaj advocates the implementation of a symmetric mobile termination rate (MTR) of PLN0.04 (USD0.012) per minute, despite claims that the reduction could result in loss of revenues to Polish operators totalling between PLN1.5 billion and PLN2 billion in 2013, reports Rpkom. Gaj said that the rate was reasonable, but the regulator may need to introduce an intermediate rate in the interim, to alleviate pressure on cellcos’ finances. The UKE expects to have made a ruling on the matter by the end of the month. The regulator delayed action following a meeting with the European Commission in which a number of concerns were raised regarding the UKE’s proposals.
