MTS cleared to acquire ZhelGor telco

12 Jul 2012

According to an unconfirmed report by Telecompaper, Russia’s Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) has cleared Mobile TeleSystems’ (MTS’) acquisition of 100% of regional telecoms operator Zheleznogorskiye Gorodskiye Telefonnye, which offers fixed line voice and broadband services in the town of Zheleznogorsk, which is situated in the Kursk Oblast. Financial details of the transaction have yet to be revealed, but the takeover comes as something of a surprise, as the company only changed hands in January 2012 when it was acquired by NetByNet Holding, itself a unit of mobile giant MegaFon.
