Viettel selects ZTE for Peru rollout

11 Jul 2012

Chinese vendor ZTE has been selected by the newest entrant into the Peruvian wireless sector, Vietnam’s Viettel, to build out a national 2G/3G network. The first stage of the rollout will see ZTE install more than 2,000 base stations and the network, once completed, will cover all of Peru. Under the terms of the contract, ZTE will provide its Uni-RAN solution, which it claims enables operators to deploy their netowrks more efficiently. The Chinese vendor will also provide operation management services. As previously noted by CommsUpdate, Viettel announced in April this year that it would launch full commercial wireless services in January 2013.
