Du, the United Arab Emirates’ second national telecoms operator, has announced that it will shortly launch a SIM registration campaign for its mobile customers, in line with the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority’s (TRA’s) ‘My Number, My Identity’ initiative. Du customers will be notified individually by SMS, only after which will they be required to visit one of 250 locations across the UAE for registration. ‘We have taken every measure to make the registration process for SIM cards as simple as possible for our customers, so that they can enjoy a smooth, hassle-free registration no matter where they are in the UAE,’ said Farid Faraidooni, COO at Du, adding: ‘I would like to encourage all our customers to register in accordance to the schedule set for them, which will be communicated via SMS, to avoid any inconvenience of disconnection.’ As reported by CommsUpdate, the TRA announced last week that mobile subscribers will have approximately 18 months to register their SIM cards. In collaboration with the two licensed telecoms operators, Emirates Telecommunications Corporation (Etisalat) and Du, the regulator’s ‘My Number, My Identity’ campaign aims to increase awareness of the new registration procedures, which aim to organise registration processes and requirements for mobile phone services. Subscribers are expected to fully update their data and ensure that their SIM cards are registered under their names.
