Orange sketches plans for 2013 LTE rollout; earmarks CHF700m

2 Jul 2012

Orange Switzerland has announced its plans for the deployment of 4G technology, starting with the construction of ‘demo platforms’ in ten cities this year, with a subsequent pilot phase in spring 2013, followed by a full rollout to six cities later that year. Orange added that it was investing CHF700 million (USD737.66 million) in modernising its network, including its planned Long Term Evolution (LTE) rollout. As noted by TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database Orange won 80MHz of LTE-suitable spectrum in the country’s frequency auction earlier this year, winning 40MHz of Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) spectrum each in the 2.1GHz and 2.6GHz bands.
