According to Dow Jones Newswires, Telecom Italia (TI) has received 15 preliminary expressions of interest for its Telecom Italia Media unit, which was put up for sale in May. Most of the interested parties are overseas companies, including News Corp, the parent company of Sky Italia, and al-Jazeera, the news channel run out of Qatar. However, Gruppo Editoriale l’Espresso, the Italian media group that publishes daily newspaper La Repubblica, has also reportedly shown an interest in the sale. In spite of the speculation Andrea Zappia, head of Sky Italia, indicated that although his company was looking at the dossier it is not interested in buying the unit. TI previously suggested that it hopes to sell the unit so that it can reduce its net debt to around EUR27.5 billion (USD34.3 billion) this year, and refocus on its core activities.
