Emirates Telecommunications Corporation (Etisalat), the United Arab Emirates’ incumbent telecoms operator, will launch a SIM registration campaign for its mobile subscribers next month, Emirates 24/7 reports. From 17 July, the operator’s customers will be required to process their mobile registration at one of over 100 points of sale across the UAE. The announcement follows the launch of the ‘My Number, My Identity’ campaign by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) earlier this month, which aims to increase awareness on the new registration procedures. ‘The My Number, My Identity campaign aims primarily at providing the necessary protection to subscribers and enabling them to procure all services easily,’ commented Etisalat’s CEO Saleh Abdulla Al Abdooli, adding: ‘Etisalat has fully harnessed its resources to complete this process successfully for its customers through its points of sale.’ He added that the campaign will help to prevent any unauthorised or criminal usage of SIM cards, thus helping to reduce fraudulent activities.
