US mobile giant Verizon Wireless, which presides over the nation’s most expansive Long Term Evolution (LTE) network, has announced that 4G services will be available in 46 new markets from today, with existing coverage also expanding in 22 additional US markets. The new deployments mean that Verizon’s LTE services are now available in a total of 304 markets, covering two-thirds of the population. According to the cellco, the latest batch of rollouts means that Verizon can now boast a more comprehensive LTE footprint than that offered by all of its domestic cellular rivals’ combined. Further, the cellco now offers 24 LTE-compatible devices, which it says is the largest selection of 4G devices offered by any carrier. Nicola Palmer, chief technical officer of Verizon Wireless, commented: ‘Our aggressive 4G LTE network build-out is on track, providing our customers with the largest 4G LTE network in the United States – and the world – today. We are committed to cover more than 400 markets by the end of 2012. We will continue to expand and strengthen our 4G LTE network and plan to offer full nationwide coverage everywhere we have 3G coverage today, by the end of 2013.’

The 46 new markets now covered by Verizon’s LTE network are: Florence (Alabama); Harrison (Arkansas); Yuba City/Marysville (California); Panama City (Florida); Carrolton, Gainesville and Newnan (Georgia); Blackfoot (Idaho); Decatur/Effingham, Kankakee/Bradley-Bourbonnais and La Salle/Peru/Ottawa (Illinois); Columbus and Michigan City/La Port (Indiana); Greater Portland (Maine); Greenville/Greenwood, Jackson and Tunica (Mississippi); Houghton and Traverse City (Michigan); Jefferson City, Lake of the Ozarks and West Plains (Montana); Binghamton, Elmira/Corning/Hornell and Oneonta (New York); Burlington, Hickory/Lenoir, Jacksonville and New Bern (North Carolina); Bedford and Sharon/Farrell/Hermitage (Pennsylvania); Anderson, Florence and Greenwood (South Carolina); Lufkin/Nacogdoches, Midland, San Angelo and Waco (Texas); Danville (Virginia); Ashland (Kentucky); Huntington, Logan (West Virginia); Fond du Lac, Janesville/Beloit and Sheboygan (Wisconsin); and Gillette (Wyoming).
