Digicel BVI, the regional mobile giant’s Virgin Islands (UK) unit, has announced the launch of its new fixed-wireless product, branded ‘DigiHOME’. The service, which is available on both a pre- and post-paid basis, is currently available at an introductory price of USD35 per month, which includes a complimentary handset, 350 minutes of voice calls and 50 SMS; all post-paid subscriptions require a USD50 deposit. Digicel BVI commercial manager Su Thomas commented: ‘DigiHOME offers competition in the market and ties in with Digicel’s vision of becoming the leading telecommunications provider in the British Virgin Islands’. She added that all existing Digicel mobile customers have the option of receiving unified bills, and listed additional benefits of the service as 49% cheaper international calling rates and free calls to three local Digicel numbers.
In the Virgin Islands (UK)’s wireless sector Digicel competes with fellow regional giant LIME and local mobile operator CCT Wireless. Digicel’s latest move sees it go head-to-head with long-term regional rival LIME, which remains the BVI’s dominant fixed line provider, despite the sector technically being opened up to competition in 2006.
