14 Jun 2012

Teletime reports that Brazilian fixed line operator Transit Telecom has completed the installation of 1,000km of fibre-optic cabling on the island of Florianopolis in Santa Catarina, linking it to the mainland. The rollout forms part of the telco’s ongoing expansion and network modernisation plans, which already covers 6,000km of fibre in Sao Paulo, Porto Alegre and Belo Horizonte. Ultimately, Transit Telecom is looking to deploy 12,000km of fibre-optic cabling in more than ten Brazilian states, part of which will see it installing fibre links in Salvador and later in Curitiba, Parana state, in the second half of this year.
